Starting a business is a scary, challenging, daunting, exciting and exhausting experience. Starting a business by yourself rather than part of a team is all the above, and more.
Behind every brand and product lies an entrepreneur with an idea. An idea that festers itself in the psyche of that person and sits on their shoulder, whispering in their ear that the time to start is now. Some of us ignore the whispers for a time, but they don't go away. We make excuses that we don't have time. Between the kids, the hectic job and the endless list of home improvements....it's just not possible.
Self-doubt is the greatest destroyer of dreams and i'm pretty sure every entrepreneur goes through some element of self-doubt. Why would people find my products interesting? Why would they buy it? I don't have the knowledge to get this product to market? What if people don't like it? what if?.... what if?.... what if?.....
Taking one step forward each day is a good place to start. Setbacks will come and go, but you simply have to keep moving forward. Everything takes longer, cost's more and is more complicated than you first thought. It's all a learning process. It's an enriching process. The simple belief that you have a product which people will enjoy, benefit from, and want to share with others is something which not only motivates you every day, but also quashes any element of self doubt.
There are still decisions to be made on a daily basis. Should I start an online store straight away? Should I change the colour profile of my logo? Should I change my logo? Should that product smell differently? What colours should I use? When you are starting out, these are the kind of questions constantly spinning around inside your head. If there is one thing I have learned from failures in the past it is that all of this is irrelevant if you can't get your product to market. Get your product to market. There is no perfect product and inevitable changes to ingredients, packaging and branding will all come. Get your product to market.
I'm delighted that our first products will be hitting the market in August 2017 where we will first be selling them locally in Harstad, and then hopefully opening up our online store before the end of the year. We've got lot's of idea's and plans and I'm hoping as many of you as possible will join us on the journey.
