Can you recycle beer? We can.

August 23, 2017

We are lucky here in Harstad to not only have a brewery, but a brewery with top quality beers in all different colours, scents and flavours.

We got in touch with Tom Dahlberg at Harstad Bryggeri with an idea about recycling the hops and grains he uses in his brewing process. Hops are added in order to provide balance between bitter and sweetness, and are more commonly found in IPA (India Pale Ale).

What most people don't know though, is that hops are also highly beneficial to your skin. Hops are a natural herb. They are high in tannin's which can help reduce inflammation. Plus they promote detoxification and are beneficial as a natural remedy to flush out toxins. That is great news if you are struggling with blemishes.  Hops also have a tonic effect that washes bacteria away. It can even help to fade old acne marks.

Grain used in the brewing process also has an abundance of skin enhancing properties. Selenium is a micro-nutrient found in grain and works as an antioxidant on your skin. It can also help protect your skin from sun damage, fight acne and promotes skin elasticity.

So, once Tom has worked his magic and drained the delicious IPA from the grains and hops, we pay him a visit in order to pick up whats left. We recycle a product which would

normally be disposed of at this point but still contains a wealth of skin enhancing properties, proving that it is possible to be kind to both your skin and the environment.

We dry the hops and grains to a level where we can reduce them to a fine grain and we set about adding them to our Harstad IPA products.
